Introducing Windows Insider Channels

Chart showing up Dev, Beta and Release Preview channels.

We are excited to announce that we’re transitioning our current ring model, based on the frequency of builds, to a new channel model that pivots on the quality of builds and better supports parallel coding efforts. To provide a similar experience to all Insiders, Microsoft is offering similar names and expectations across Windows and Office programs and soon Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Teams. As always, we’re excited to provide a better experience to our Windows Insiders to help shape the future of Windows.

Check out another exciting Your Phone app feature that’s available to general public. This feature allows you to control your music and audio apps from within the Your Phone app. You can access and control the audio apps, including play, pause, and previous/next, playing from your phone directly within the app, without needing to split your attention between devices or breaking your workflow. Your audio tracks will remain in sync between your phone and PC, and you can switch between multiple sources using the dropdown in the player.

Try our experimental marketplace for the fair exchange of data

Drawing about how developers and photo takers are connected by marketplace.

Every day, developers and researchers are finding creative ways to leverage AI to augment human intelligence and solve tough problems. Whether they’re training a computer vision model that can spot endangered snow leopards or helping us do our business expenses more easily when we scan pictures of receipts, they need a lot of quality pictures to do it.

Trove, a Microsoft Garage project, creates a platform for everybody to securely participate in the development of meaningful AI projects by connecting developers and photo takers in a fair, transparent marketplace. Using the mobile app, photo takers can browse and contribute to different AI projects by submitting photos that AI developers can use to train models. Trove aims to foster the development of higher quality data through an experimental marketplace that values transparency, control, enrichment, and connection.

Trove is currently accepting a small number of experiment participants in the United States on both Android and iOS. Sign up for a private preview today.

Are you colorblind? Is someone you know?

Did you know Windows comes with three color filters you can choose from to help make the colors on your screen more distinct if you're colorblind? The option is under Settings > Ease of Access > Color Filters.

If it’s turned on in Settings, you can also quickly turn your preferred filter on or off with WIN + Ctrl + C.

Monitor your system activity and manage active processes

Does anyone else like to open Task Manager just to see what's going on with their system? Ctrl + Shift + Esc will bring it up when you need it. If you always want Task Manager to launch on top of your other apps, you can turn this on in Task Manager under Options.

Need to get at Device Manager or an elevated PowerShell window?

Press WIN + X! A bunch of useful options will appear. You can also bring up this menu by right-clicking the Start menu icon.
